Two die in Durgapur Steel Plant gas leak


Kolkata, Dec 8 (IANS): Two workers died and six were taken ill after inhaling poisonous gas while repairing a leak in a gas pipeline at West Bengal's Durgapur Steel Plant, police said Monday.

The incident happened Sunday evening when the workers were repairing a leak in the gas pipeline of the blast furnace.

"Shyamapada Barui and Sanyasi Gop were declared dead Sunday night while six others have been hospitalised after inhaling toxic gas," said a police officer.

According to police, at least 12 workers were repairing the pipeline when the gas leaked out.
