11 killed in Afghan police station attack

Kabul, Dec 8 (IANS): At least 11 people were killed and seven injured Monday after Taliban militants attacked government buildings in Afghanistan's Kandahar province.

"One militant detonated a car bomb near the Maywand district police station," an official told Xinhua.

"Four militants hidden at the area entered the station and also targeted the nearby district intelligence agency office," he said.

The victims were five attackers, a criminal investigation department police officer, a soldier and four civilians.

The attackers wore police uniform to disguise themselves while entering the building, the official added.

Shortly after the attack, the Taliban claimed responsibility for the incident.
