MH17 wreckage to arrive in Netherlands Tuesday

The Hague, Dec 9 (IANS): The wreckage of the crashed Malaysia Airlines flight MH17 is slated to arrive in The Netherlands Tuesday.

The first convoy of trucks, which left the Ukrainian city of Kharkiv last Wednesday, is currently in Germany, Xinhua quoted the Dutch Safety Board as saying in a statement issued Monday.

After the convoy enters the Gilze-Rijen airforce base, the trucks will drive to the nearby location where the investigation will take place, the statement added.

In the light of insecurity in the area, the wreckage's recovery started Nov 16 and was completed a week later.

The wreckage will not only be stored and investigated at the Gilze Rijen Air Base, but part of the aircraft will be reconstructed as well at this location.

The latter is part of the investigation to find out what caused the crash.

The MH17 flight en route from Amsterdam to Kuala Lumpur crashed in eastern Ukrainian region of Donetsk July 17, killing all 298 people on board, of which 292 victims have been identified.
