Delhi church fire issue raised in Rajya Sabha

New Delhi, Dec 9 (IANS): The issue of the fire at a church in Delhi was raised in the Rajya Sabha Tuesday, with Trinamool Congress member Derek O'Brien saying Christians are being targeted.

"I am saddened, horrified and angry. We all are familiar with details of what happened in east Delhi Church," Derek O'Brien said.

"It is a case of targeted arson," he said.

"The timing is important. The incident is not an isolated one. Similar incidents have happened in Madhya Pradesh. Christians are a minority in minorities and they are being targeted," he said.

The Trinamool Congress member also said that Home Minister Rajnath Singh should make a statement on it.

A Catholic church in east Delhi was gutted under mysterious circumstances last week.

The caretakers of the church have alleged the involvement of some unidentified men in the fire. A special investigation team (SIT) is probing the incident.
