26 farmers booked for attacking police

Ghaziabad, Dec 9 (IANS): Twenty-six farmers have been booked here in Uttar Pradesh for attacking police personnel, police said.

The police raided the farmers' residences Monday night in Mirzapur locality and took 60 of them to the police station. Of them, 26 have been booked.

The police action followed an assault on a group of police personnel by some farmers who were furious that a farmer who had gone missing Dec 2 was found dead.

"The farmers attacked policemen performing their duty. So they (farmers) are liable to be arrested," police official P.P. Karnwal said.
