Uber slapped with case, driver booked for forgery

New Delhi, Dec 9 (IANS): A case of cheating and violating lawful orders was Tuesday lodged against online cab booking company Uber four days after one of its drivers allegedly raped a 25-year-old woman business analyst, police said. The accused driver has also been booked for forgery.

"A case under Sections 420 (cheating) and 188 (disobedience to order duly promulgated by public servant) of the Indian Penal Code was registered at Sarai Rohilla police station in north Delhi Tuesday morning," Deputy Commissioner of Police Madhur Verma told IANS.

The driver, Shiv Kumar Yadav, is accused of raping the woman in his cab while dropping her at her home in north Delhi Friday night. He was arrested Sunday from his native place Mathura in Uttar Pradesh.

Verma said another case of forgery has been slapped against Yadav.

The forgery case was registered at north Delhi's Burari police station Tuesday morning against Yadav for submitting forged documents with the Burari Transport Authority to get a tourist permit.

A forged character certificate purportedly issued by Delhi Police was also found from his possession Monday.

According to the first information report, a copy of which is with the IANS: "During the course of investigation, it was revealed that police clearance certificate in the name of Shiv Kumar Yadav has not been issued by the office of DCP south-east district."

"The said certificate has been submitted by the holder with Transport Authority office Burari for the purpose of obtaining permit."

Police said the man was accused in three more criminal cases in Uttar Pradesh's Mainpuri district.

"Shiv Kumar Yadav was involved in molestation in 2003, Arms Act in 2006, and rape and robbery in 2013 in Mainpuri area. He was arrested and charge-sheeted in all cases," a police officer told IANS.

Yadav was also an accused in at least two cases under the Uttar Pradesh Control of Goonda Act.

All the cases are still under trial and he is out on bail, the officer said.
