Ten killed in Afghanistan

Kabul, Dec 10 (IANS): Two Afghan army soldiers and eight militants have been killed since Tuesday, media reports said Wednesday.

"Over the past 24 hours, eight Taliban militants were killed and six others detained following army operations in six provinces out of 34 Afghan provinces," Xinhua reported, quoting the statement of Afghanistan's defence ministry.

Two army personnel lost their lives in a roadside bomb attack, the statement said.

The army also found and defused 31 bombs and landmines planted by militants across the country, added the statement.

The US forces and NATO-led troops will switch from combat to support role by the end of this month, but will continue to train, advise and assist Afghan forces.
