Kolkata, Dec 10 (IANS): The Calcutta Diocese, which is celebrating its bicentenary Wednesday, said it was working on collaborating with various religious heads and organisations to fight social evils like woman trafficking.
Expressing concern over rising instances of crime against women, Calcutta Bishop Ashoke Biswas stressed on the need of religious leaders and organisation like Swami Vivekananda-found Ram Krishna Mission (RKM) to raise awareness against the atrocities against women.
"We have been organising interfaith dialogue with various religious leaders and organisation to find ways as to how can we fight social evils like trafficking and crime against women, which unfortunately have been rising," Biswas said while announcing the year-long bicentenary celebrations.
"We have been closely working with the RKM and efforts are on to develop close association with various others such organizations, Imams, Sikh gurus etc so that we all may work together to fight these social evils," he added.
Biswas also said the diocese is also setting up a resource centre in city's Kidderpore where youths and children from underprivileged background will be given various kinds of training and teachings to enable them to make a place for themselves in the society.
Various programmes including a walkathon, inter school sports tournament and interfaith dialogue have been lined up for the yearlong celebrations beginning Dec 14.
The walkathon, to be organised Feb 7 in the city, will witness participants from various school and colleges condemning women and child trafficking.
"Resonance of the Chronicle", a documentary show casing the diocese's 200 year journey, will also be launched as part of the celebrations.
