Smriti Irani's visit to astrologer raked up in Rajya Sabha

New Delhi,Dec 11, DHNS: Human Resource Development Minister Smriti Irani’s recent visit to an astrologer in Rajasthan was raked up in the Rajya Sabha on Wednesday with a Congress member calling her actions “unscientific”.

Congress MP Shantaram Naik said in spite of her educational qualifications being challenged, Irani had done well as minister, but sought to corner her for challenging “scientific temperament”.

“I am pained to see you going to an astrologer... it challenges the scientific temperament as encompassed in the Constitution of India,” he said while participating in a debate on a bill on School of Planning and Architecture.

“(As a minister) you don’t have a private life. I am pained that you have visited an astrologer. What are you going to tell the students? To go to a fortune teller? The message you have given does not commensurate with the role you have been given,” Naik added.

    Remember the upper class of hindustan made varna bheda rule & restricted the knowledge base limited to themselves and in my opinion because of that though hinduism was one of the most known ancient civilised society was not able to Conquer the world. It was only after British invasion & rule for over 2 centuries education become accessible to the lower/under privileged strata of the society.
    All that i can say by giving an example that - I am extremely proud to say or make known to all upper class hindu's that Bharat Ratna Dr BR Ambedkar authored constitution of hindustan and the same is binding on all hindustani's including upper class (if at all that exists).

    All the 4 varnas are important. Varna means one that is adopted by choice.
    People who are going about calling themselves “Brahmins” in today’s world are not actually brahmins in the real sense of Vedas – just because they have been born into families which had Brahmins as their ancestors, they have assumed the status of Brahmins. It is very similart to someone calling himself a doctor just because his great grandfather was a doctor by profession.
    But society grades occupations based on skill and sphere of influence. In their blind hate for casteism and anti-hindu propaganda, people are suggesting all occupations are equal. If that was the case, would you suggest equal pay for the scientist and the garbage collector? No occupation is lowly, but that doesn’t imply all occupations are treated the same. There should be dignity of labour.

    bcoz in 2017, bjp will get rajyasabha majority along with loksabha majority and pranabda's president term will also end during that time and bjp guy will be president at that time.

    I never said, VYASA found out diameter.. there is nothing like inventing/discovering!! i Said, it is named after VYASA= diameter! ...

    Just like Mumbai Pune expressway is constructed by BJP, but named after Ashok CHAVAN's father! just named! doesnt mean he constructed it!

    OK.. we indians had found out the earth diameter exactly, when rest were still thinking earth is flat and sky is a shamiana!

    why VYASA/for diameter, is your question , then here is answer
    VYASA- divided the fulll Vedas into 4 divisions,rig, yajur,sama,atharva veda and gave it to 4 of his disciples to develop! the division suggested that a circle was made 4 quadrant, from circumference to circumeference, but via the center point!! hence such line is diameter and given VYASA name in sanskrit! take it or leave it.. it is the way it is!

    no one claimed it to be exact science!! they just said it "JYOTIRGANITHA"!!! its pure maths! exploring the astorlogical planets their distance, their gravitational fields, and their influence on humans was inetresting field for our ancestors!... they have accurately found out the light year distances of these planets, their movements and infact the cycles of fullmoon/newmoon/eclipses/diameter of earth (given name of VYASA) everything have been accurately calculated!..

    greek had theirs, chinese have their practices! no one infact rejected it like islam/christianity! ...
    Agreed today there are FRAUDS who claim to be the experts in astrology and they have got bad name to it!..

    Walk around bangalore shivajin nagaar, you will find many "GEMS" business, or a blue turquoise bracelet of Salman hanging there..! so many muslims wear a gem stone on their fingers! so, do Hindus! Infact even before MARS was called a red planet and explored the temperature there, hindus had asscoaited a red coral for that planet!!

    I have done comparative studies in all religion wrt science and have found lot many bloopers everywhere! you either go SCIENCE way or SPIRITUAL way!!

    When one person do not know what awaits him very next moment can not predict on another person.Unfortunately even educated person fall prey in to this .It is human weakness that he wants to know what will happen after sometime. A strong man or women never go to astrologer .He believes in his Karma and leaves the rest to God (as Geeta Preaches). There are thousands of such Jyotish are exploiting this human weakness. A minister that too HRD giving wrong messages to young generation. However I do not agree with Opposition in wasting time on this in Parliament .They need to expose the false promises made by this govt and remind them of their poll promises again.

    Mr. Poojary, it is true that some educated, and a very high percentage of the illiterate people believe in astrology-horoscope-palm reading etc. Mrs. Ronald Reagan had that personality trait.

    I have watched rows of palm readers in religious festivals of various religions, and making money out of misleading the gullible people with giving them big dreams.

    H2O, all the scientists from any part of the world will be unified in that conclusion. In a scientific reality, there will not be any challenge or contradiction.

    But, take 10 famous astrologers to make a prediction about certain events touching a nation or an individual they will be having various disagreement or perhaps total disagreement.

    So, astrology, is it a science? Who was the original inventors of astrology-palm reading and horoscope? For every scientific invention, we have either an individual or a group of people behind that.
