Taliban militants take control of Afghan market

Kabul, Dec 11 (IANS): Taliban militants Thursday took control of a market in Afghanistan's Herat province.

"Hundreds of Taliban fighters entered the bazaar of Shindand district," Xinhua reported citing Tolo television.

Deputy of Herat police Aminullah Azad has denied reports of Taliban militants capturing Shindand Bazaar but confirmed their presence in the area.

"Taliban rebels are present in Shindand Bazaar and the security forces have launched operations to evict the insurgents from the area," Azad said.
