Nepal starts negotiation on constitution drafting

Kathmandu, Dec 11 (IANS): Nepal's four major political parties have started negotiations to sort out key issues, as final deadline for drafting a new constitution draws closer, officials said Thursday.

Top leaders of Nepali Congress (NC), Communist Party of Nepal-Unified Marxist-Leninist (CPN-UML), Unified Communist Party of Nepal (UCPN)-Maoist have begun talks on federalism, electoral system and judiciary, the key points which are crippling the constitution drafting process, Xinhua reported.

The talks have continued since Tuesday and leaders are negotiating for a conclusion which would be acceptable to all parties.

The first Constituent Assembly (CA) failed to tackle those issues. The parties have pledged to explore a win-win formula and bring constitution by Jan 22.
