Srinagar at minus 4.4 degrees records season's lowest

Srinagar, Dec 11 (IANS): The night temperatures in the Kashmir Valley continued to drop Thursday, Srinagar recording it at 4.4 degrees Celsius below the freezing point, the lowest in the season so far.

"The minimum temperature was minus 4.4 degrees Celsius in Srinagar, which is this season's lowest. Moderate to heavy snowfall is expected Dec 13 and 14 in the higher reaches," Sonam Lotus, director of the local meteorological office, told IANS.

He, however, said weather in plains will mostly remain dry.

The continuing spell of dry weather for over a fortnight has intensified cold wave conditions in the Kashmir valley.

Leh town of the Ladakh region remained the coldest in the state and recorded the temperature of 14.4 degrees Celsius below the freezing point and Kargil of the same region recorded minus 13.8 degrees Celsius.
