Another conversion event in UP Dec 25, alert sounded

Lucknow, Dec 11 (IANS): The Uttar Pradesh government Thursday sounded an alert across the state following a call given by the Dharma Jagran Samiti - an affiliate of the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) that it would convert 5,000 Muslims to Hinduism Dec 25 in Bulandshahr and Aligarh.

Home department officials told IANS that police have been sensitized on the issue and the local intelligence units (LIU) have been asked to keep a tab on organisations like the Bajrang Dal and the Vishwa Hindu Parishad (VHP).

"Necessary instructions have been issued to police officials and they have been asked to ensure that no untoward incident occurs," a senior official said.

The Samiti is scheduled to hold the conversion event - Ghar Waapsi (home coming)- at Maheshwari College. The BJP MP from Gorakhpur, Mahant Adityanath is slated to attend the ceremony.

The BJP MP has confirmed his participation to the organisers and said if someone was willingly converting, why should there be a controversy over it.

Meanwhile, in the Agra conversion case, the district police have begun a probe and details of 300 persons belonging to 56 families who were claimed to have been converted into Hinduism are being collected for scrutiny and investigation.

IG (law and Order) A. Satish Ganesh said that in preliminary probe so far it has been found that the persons who converted were lured with the offer of getting them ration cards, and added that district police in Agra were following up the case on priority basis.
