New Delhi, Dec 11 (IANS): Shiv Kumar Yadav, accused of raping a 25-year-old business analyst, will be under watch in Tihar jail here, an officer said Thursday.

"Yadav has been lodged in Tihar's jail number 1 and will be under observation for the next few days. A jail warden will keep a watch on him," a jail officer told IANS.

Earlier in the day, a court sent Yadav to 14-day judicial custody, after his three-day police custody ended. He was arrested Dec 7.

From court, he was taken to Tihar where his medical check up was done, said the officer.

"His ward is separated from the hardened criminals who could be a threat to him. His inmates are petty criminals," the officer added.

Yadav had allegedly raped the woman who works in a Gurgaon based multinational company in his cab, while she was on her way to home in north Delhi Dec 5.

One of the accused in gang-rape of physiotherapist student in 2012, Ram Singh had committed suicide by hanging himself in jail number 3.
