UP Guv Ram Naik's 'Ram Temple' talk brings new controversy for govt

New Delhi, De 12 (NDTV) : Stirring a new controversy in the middle of a row over religious conversions, Uttar Pradesh Governor Ram Naik has said a Ram temple should be built in Ayodhya and "it is the wish of Indian citizens."

"The Ram Temple should be built as soon as possible, this is what the people of this country want and their wishes should be fulfilled," Mr Naik, 80, said at an event at Awadh University in Faizabad near Ayodhya, home to the decades-old dispute over the razed Babri mosque site that many Hindus believe was the birthplace of Lord Ram.

Asked to clarify, he repeated his words to the media.

Reacting to that statement, Trinamool Congress parliamentarian Derek O'Brien said on an NDTV show, "The governor of Uttar Pradesh has said every Indian wants a Ram Mandir. Do you expect Parliament to run with a statement like that from a Governor?"

Mr Naik has been accused of making political statements earlier too.

Last month, on a visit to Ayodhya for an event organised by the Vishwa Hindu Parishad, he had reportedly said that the temple-mosque row could be resolved within five years as Prime Minister Narendra Modi was working out a plan.

"Prime Minister is preparing a plan to work out a peaceful solution to the Ayodhya dispute. It will be solved once and for all within the next five years," the governor was quoted by the Press Trust of India as saying.

Mr Naik, a former BJP parliamentarian and union minister, was appointed governor to Uttar Pradesh in July as part of a series of switches in top posts after the BJP came to power.

His comment adds to a raging row over religious conversions in Agra, allegedly by groups linked to the BJP's ideological mentor Rashtriya Swayamseval Sangh, which has had the government confronting an angry opposition in Parliament.

Defending Mr Naik, BJP spokesperson Siddharth Nath Singh today said, "Is it wrong to take Ram's name? Is it wrong to construct Ram's temple? Is the belief of millions in Lord Ram is wrong? Opposition should raise valid issues before public and not spread the propaganda."

Shaan have you forgotten how BJP looted Karnataka when they were in power in Karnataka. Have you forgotten the church attacks and you saw that as a result of that they lost power. Have you not read Justice Sdaananda Hegdes report? Have forgotten watching of blu films in Vidhan Souda by BJP MLAs'?. Modi has been abroad more than he has been in India since elected. Show me one improvement BJP has done other than media publicity. All hyped USA trip was a flop as not a single agreement was signed. There are communal riots all over India and interference by BJD, VHP and RSS in every field and you will find that fair minded Hindus will see what BJP stands for and will get them out next time.

    Who is stopping you build.
Why its only election manifesto and rhetoric during election.
You had government from 1999-2004 and now you have government from 2014-2019.
Is 10 years not enough for you to build a temple.
How may more years you want to win the elections on fake rhetoric

There are so many Problems to solved in India first before a temple is built.Think how many children have not education and poor so that they have no Chance to go schooland work in hot sun ,Stones ,get hardly ameal a day so that Family income raises. In farms coffe plantation ,fabrics ,deal with dangerous paints without any proper gloves etc.and fall sick,no Money to go doctor. Are These not a must first? How many People have to sell their kidneys because they have no other sources tp live?and we talk about building mandirs and temples ,and churches.Do God love us only we build mandirs?we can worship him even in our hearts and homes. No Need of extra buildings to Show it was a place of previous.....Let us look bit beyond our Ponds.

The Great Maryadha Purush of Epic Ramayan by Valmiki is missing in presents days life. Instead all fake RAMs like Ram Naik, Jatin Ram, JayaRam & GayaRams.......all making news for bad reasons. The Godly Ram is missing everywhere. The "Ram" become political tool for some people. The "Hey Ram" of Mahatma Ghandi is required now and not of "RAM" of Ram Naik.

Petrol and diesel prices have come down all over the world as price of a barrel of oil has dropped drastically as Americans are pumping excess oil into the market to keep the prices down. It has nothing to do with Modi government.

so there is a pattern in this madness. In all 6 months of this tamasha (dangerous one)..can cost us the 60 yrs of development.

Millions of people in India go to bed hungry without food & water daily.Millions live in Slums & huts aspiring & dreaming for a decent housing.Thousands if not millions r begging on roads looking for a shelter in the night. People r fed of bad roads, highways, Ghats, Bridges with full of Potholes & without having proper street lights. U think these people r dreaming of praying in temples, Masjids & Churches.

I think BJP never believes in Supreme court, other wise person like Ram Naik should not give this type of statement( He is Governor Now, not politician).
Soon it will be called as Hindu development, not nation development
