Fishing trawler capsizes in Bengal, seven missing

Kolkata, Dec 12 (IANS): At least seven fishermen went missing Friday when a fishing trawler capsized near the Bay of Bengal in West Bengal's South 24 Parganas, a fishermen's association official said.

The trawler capsized after being caught in a sudden storm near Kendo Island in the Sunderbans.

"The trawler with 10 fishermen on board capsized early in the morning after being caught in a storm. While three of the men were rescued, seven are still missing. We are carrying out a rescue operation and the Coast Guard and marine police too have been informed," West Bengal United Fishermen Association president Joykrishna Haldar told IANS.

In August, seven fishermen drowned after a trawler capsized in the Bay of Bengal.
