Regulator caps prices of 52 more essential drugs

New Delhi, Dec 13 (IANS): The National Pharmaceutical Pricing Authority (NPPA) Friday capped retail prices of 52 more essential medicines, including painkillers and antibiotics.

"The ceiling and retail prices of 52 formulation packs have been fixed or revised under the Drugs Price Control Order (DPCO)," the regulator said in a notification here.

The notice adds the new drugs to the list of about 400 essential medicines, whose prices are administratively controlled by the regulator for making them affordable for the people.

Some of the drugs, made by leading Indian and multinational firms, are used for treating cancer and skin disorders.
