UP lokayukta summons complainant against minister

Lucknow, Dec 13 (IANS): Uttar Pradesh Lokayukta N.K. Mehrotra has summoned a complainant who submitted a fact-sheet on Mining minister Gayatri Prasad Prajapati, officials said Saturday.

Complainant Om Prakash Dwivedi has been asked to come to the Lokayukta office Dec 22 to justify his allegations as to how the mining and minerals minister misused his office to amass illegal wealth and property within no time.

In his complaint, Dwivedi alleged that the minister now owns 11 luxury vehicles and has more than a dozen companies in his or his family members' names.

Prajapati, meanwhile, clarified that the properties attributed to him were purchased before he became a legislator or a minister.

The minister, said to be close to Samajwadi Party supremo Mulayam Singh Yadav, accused his political opponents of launching a tirade against him.

"This is a political conspiracy and I will fight it out," he said.

Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav has said the minister will put up his defence before the Lokayukta when summoned.

"People can complain against anyone. Tomorrow, someone may lodge a complaint against me, what can we do but to present the reality before the Lokayukta and am sure the minister will do it," he said.
