12-foot-tall chocolate Christmas tree at Chennai hotel

Chennai, Dec 13 (IANS): A dozen chefs and half-a-dozen carpenters have created a 12-foot-tall Christmas tree using 250 kg of chocolate and ice cubes at the five-star Hilton Chennai here, a hotel official said Saturday.

"The ornaments (Santa Claus, snowmen and mini trees) were made with icing sugar. It took six days of preparatory work and 14 hours to assemble the tree," the official told IANS.

So where did the carpenters come into play in making the chocolate tree?

"First, the huge inverted conical structure was made of plywood. Then the chocolate applied over it," the official said.

The chocolate will be later melted to make decorative figurines and sculptures.
