Seven missing fishermen untraced, search continues

Kolkata, Dec 14 (IANS): Seven fishermen, who had gone missing after their trawler capsized near the Bay of Bengal in West Bengal's South 24 Parganas, were still untraced even as search operations continued Sunday, an official said.

The trawler with 10 fishermen on board capsized Friday near Kendo Island in Sunderbans after being caught in a storm. Three of them were rescued later but the remaining seven went missing.

"We are still continuing the search operations along with the Coast Guard but still to trace the missing seven fishermen. We have not lost hope," West Bengal United Fishermen Association president Joykrishna Haldar told IANS.

In August, seven fishermen were drowned after a trawler had capsized in the Bay of Bengal.
