PSV and Ajax continue dominance in Dutch Eredivisie

The Hague, Dec 15 (IANS): PSV Eindhoven and AFC Ajax continued their dominance in the Dutch Eredivisie with Feyenoord losing ground after a 2-2 draw against AZ Alkmaar.

Dutch leaders PSV were too strong for FC Twente in Eindhoven. Luuk de Jong headed in a corner by Jetro Willems and Georginio Wijnaldum finished a fine attack on the stroke of half-time to make it 2-0 Sunday, reports Xinhua.

FC Utrecht caused some threats in the opening phase, but Ajax proved to be more effective. Thulani Serero scored with a deflected long-distance shot and Davy Klaassen finished a combination with Arkadiusz Milik. Rubio Rubin pulled one back ten minutes from half-time.

In the second half Christian Kum hit the post on behalf of Utrecht, but Anwar El Ghazi decided the match in favour of the home team. He secured the 3-1 victory in the 65th minute.

Feyenoord were in great form in recent weeks, but dropped points against Alkmaar. Wesley Hoedt and Muamer Tankovic gave Alkmaar the lead but Colin Kazim-Richards and Jordy Clasie saved a point for Feyenoord. The latter produced the equaliser in the injury time (2-2).

Also Sunday, FC Groningen and Vitesse drew 1-1, while PEC Zwolle defeated.

PSV now lead the standings with 37 points from 15 matches, followed by Ajax (36-16), the new number three PEC Zwolle (29-15), Feyenoord (28-15), AZ (28-16) and FC Twente (25-16).
