Patna, Dec 15 (IANS): Police have begun an investigation into alleged offer of a job by Pakistan's ISI to a member of an influential Muslim body here, police Monday said.

A case has been lodged at Sultanganj police station in connection with a mail received by Rizwan informing him that Pakistan's ISI has selected him for recruitment, sub-divisional police officer Rajesh Kumar said. Rizwan Ahmad is member of Jamaat-e-Islami Hind.

Rajesh Kumar said that cyber crime cell of the state police is investigating the matter.

Ahmad in his FIR said that he received a mail Dec 9 on his personal email ID, and it appeared to him that mail was a part to attempt to tarnish his image and to defame the Jamaat-e-Islami Hind.

"I have informed the police about the mail and sought proper investigation about the mail and punishment to the people behind it," Ahmad said.

Sultanganj police station officer Saligram Prasad said Ahmad is a resident of a village in Araria district and living in a rented house in Pathar Ki Masjid locality in Patna.

Patna Superintendent of Police Shivdip Lande said that authenticity of mail will be ascertained by the IP address.

"Police are trying to trace the IP of the mail. If the case is connected with Pakistan, it is a serious matter," he said.

According to Prasad, mail received by Ahmad was sent by Pakistan's ISI which informed him that he has been recruited by the agency. The mail also informed him that it is a confidential mail and asked him not to disclose it to anyone.
