Two dead, seven injured in road accident in Delhi


New Delhi, Dec 15 (IANS): Two people died and seven others, including a woman, were injured when a speeding car hit two separate auto-rickshaws in which they were travelling, police said Monday. The car driver has been arrested.

The incident occurred around 3.15 p.m. Sunday in Kashmere Gate area of north Delhi.

"The victims were travelling in two separate auto-rickshaws plying between east Delhi's Khajoori Khas and Kashmere Gate," a police officials said.

The injured were rushed to a nearby hospital where Monu, 25, and Kailash, 26, were declared dead.

Pankaj, 20, Sapna, 25, Rambabu, 30, Anil Tiwari, 40, Rajender, 30, Ramesh, 45, and Shiv Kumar, 37, suffered injuries in the incident and were released from the hospital after first aid.

Following the accident, the errant driver Akshay Saxena, 22, who works in a multinational company and resides in east Delhi's New Ashok Nagar, fled leaving his vehicle on the spot, but was later arrested from his hideout.
