Dreaded criminal escapes as associates attack police party


Baghpat, Dec 15 (IANS): Armed criminals attacked an Uttarakhand police party in Baghpat district of western Uttar Pradesh Monday and escaped with their associate whom the police were taking for producing him in a court here, police said.

The incident occurred at Tateeri railway station about 35 km from Delhi. The criminals also looted three automatic weapons including an AK-47 and a self-loading rifle from the five-member police team.

The police team had brought Amit alias Bhura from Dehradun jail to Baghpat.

Amit, presently lodged in Dehradun jail in a murder case, is facing another murder trial in Baghpat court.

"Amit alias Bhura is a dreaded criminal of western Uttar Pradesh...Police teams have been constituted to nab him and his accomplices," said Ramit Sharma, DIG of UP Police at Meerut range.
