Petrol, diesel rates cut by Rs 2 per litre

New Delhi, Dec 15 (PTI): Petrol and diesel prices were today cut by Rs 2 per litre each as international oil prices slumped to five-year low.

This is the eighth straight reduction in petrol prices since August, and fourth in diesel since October. New rates will be effective midnight tonight, Indian Oil Corp, the nation's largest fuel retailer, announced here.

In Delhi, petrol will cost Rs 61.33 a litre, the lowest in 44 months, as compared to current price of Rs 63.33. The price has been cut by Rs 2.09 a litre in Mumbai to Rs 68.86.

Rates differ from state to state because of varied rates of local sales tax or VAT.

Diesel will cost Rs 50.51 a litre in Delhi, the lowest since July 2013, as against Rs 52.51 currently. In Mumbai, it will cost Rs 57.91 per litre as compared to Rs 60.11.

The rate cut would have been steeper but for the government deciding to make hay out of the crude oil rate slump to USD 62.37 per barrel by raising excise duty on petrol by Rs 2.25 and by Re 1 a litre on diesel.

Crude oil price in June was USD 115 per barrel. The prices of petrol and diesel were last revised downwards on December 1 by 91 paisa a litre and 84 paisa per litre respectively (including state levies at Delhi) on the back of declining international oil prices.

After today's reduction, petrol price has been cut by Rs 12.27 per litre cumulatively since August.

Diesel price was cut for the first time in more than five years on October 19 by Rs 3.37 a litre when the government decided to deregulate the fuel. This was followed by a Rs 2.25 a litre reduction on November 1 and 84 paisa per litre on December 1. Cumulatively, diesel prices have been cut by Rs 8.46 a litre in four reductions.

There would have been another reduction on November 15 but the government mopped up, raising excise duty on petrol and diesel by Rs 1.50 a litre each. In the two excise duty hikes, the government has raised its revenue by Rs 10,600 crore this fiscal.

IOC said in a statement: "The prices of petrol and diesel were last revised downwards with effect from December 1 by Rs 0.91 per litre and Rs 0.84 a litre respectively (including state levies at Delhi) on the back of declining international oil prices.

"Since the above price changes, the international prices of both petrol and diesel have continued to be on a downtrend. The Rupee-US Dollar exchange rate has however appreciated since the last price change. The combined impact of both these factors warrant a decrease in retail selling prices of both petrol and diesel."

The movement of prices in international oil market and Rupee-USD exchange rate shall continue to be closely monitored and developing trends of the market will be reflected in future price changes, it added.

The Oil prices depends on International Oil Markets and how the oil prices are falling and see the following quote from one of the website:
I quote: To understand this story, we have to go back to the mid-2000s. Oil prices were rising sharply because global demand was surging — especially in China — and there wasn't enough oil production to keep up. That led to large price spikes, and oil hovered around $100 per barrel between 2011 and 2014.
But as oil prices increased, many energy companies suddenly found it profitable to start extracting oil from difficult-to-drill places. In the United States, companies began using techniques like fracking and horizontal drilling to extract oil from shale formations in North Dakota and Texas.
That led to a boom in "tight oil" production, as the US has added about 4 million new barrels of crude oil per day to the global market since 2008. (Global production is about 75 million barrels per day, so this is a significant number.)

Things changed again around September 2014. Many of those disruptions started easing. Libya's oil industry began pumping out lots of crude again. And even more significantly, oil demand in Asia and Europe has been weakening — particularly in places like China, Japan, and Germany.
The combination of weaker demand and rising supply caused oil prices to start ping from their June peak of $115 per barrel down to around $80 per barrel by mid-November. Oil is still much pricier than it was a decade ago (when it was still around $40 per barrel). But it's ping for now. Unquote.

Very colour comments from readers.. About price varies in different states bcz all states infrastructure not the same & all states not getting equal money from central gov. due to Cong-BJP name fame..
For Puneeth, if u like to fill fuel to ur car/bike in low price, u can take ur vehicles to low price state & filled it.. Dont count state only by petrol/diesel price, jst look about needed infrastructure like Road repair, giving donation for local feast celebration & many more..
About comparison of Dollar vs current petrol price. At USD 120 for cured oil time, gov. was paying excess money to oil companies to equalize the loss.. Now its Oil price came down & gov. no need pay it from Gov. revenue.
Dont comment like FB funny comments.. Even Wasim & Puneeth making comment competition.. Some are hiding thier name like making crime by posting comments..
Be happy on wat we got now..

Irrespective of in crude price nothing will change in price of commodities or other services including transport and delivery in India. Half of the profit will be eaten by petro companies by showing extra cost and remaining will be politicians and traders share. There is no strict gov't regulations on these issues that the common man will benefit out of this!

Manmohan singh as India's PM and UPA with more than 10 parties together as a government at the centre the rate per barell was as high as $145 and the price of the petrol never touched Rs80 per litre.
Today BJP with more than 400 seats single largest party Modi as PM rpice of crude oil per barell is $65 (almost half of what it was earlies and what is the petrol cost Rs. 68. Jai ho modi
Acche din for all the oil companies not for common man.
He promised acche din in 100 days.
Modi is a man who only can talk while manmohan was silent but he did things even though some things were out of control like 2G scam etc.
Modi is a man who only knows to give photoshoot to the advertisers and he knows to advertise himself zero outcome with maximum show.
Manmohan singh never showed such things but it was manmohan who was silent throughout who let his own party down by remaining silent.
We know this younger generation is crazy about social media and Modi has used it well to project himself to these crazy people.
Modi will get another 5 years for sure since these crazy people will be voting again for Modi, but by then the nation would have been ruled by Adani, Ambani and others

at the most, ambanis and adanis etc may get more contracts.atleast in this case trillions of indian money will stay in india and therby jobs will be created and indian economy will improve.

it is better than trillions of dollar indian money deposited in swiss banks and india and indians getting poorer.

if you see other countries like usa,eu,japan etc, only 10-20 big industrialist are there and they are the only peoples handling big projects and conracts in thier countries.

i know it is unfair, but thats how the world order and the world politics works.

what we have to take care is indian money should exist and devolop in india only and it should create jobs and thereby enrich the nation and its citizens.

Because of the nexus between politicians and the industrialists or the agents etc. Political leaders demand a certain amount which these people have to oblige...To get that money back they have no option other than increasing prices by multifold...Look at liquor prices. Its highest in Karnataka inspite of our own King V.Mallya.Because once they satisfy the politicians kings get free hand to increase prices.

Dear Rajesh…..if you study in deep….. You will come to know how NDA Govt handles the economy currently. Even though crude oil price has been reduced from 115$ to 60$ today (147$ was the old and peak time price once prevailed) consumer fuel price is not reduced just because NDA Govt recover more revenue to clear the deficit budget by way of increasing central taxes on fuel sale. For your kind info, in India, Central Govt is allowed to take loan up to 90% of the total deficit budget but due to bad governance by previous UPA Govt….. Our borrowing was 80% by end of September itself it means current Govt would have gone bankrupt by end of December itself where as they have to run the show up to March next year too. In fact this situation is blessing in disguise at the cost of almost all Gulf Countries except Emirate like Dubai in UAE since they have no more oil Income

    Shettre,
to read economics need Economics brain ! Not only speeches !
Today Rupee is falling because of GDP is fallen recently, GDP is fallen because Govt has not reduced the cost of fuel as line with international prices ! In India fuel prices is directly impacting the costs of goods and services. If Govt has reduced the fuel price drastically resulting in more production of goods and services at cheaper rate. Cheaper rate goods and services means more exports, More Exports means more foreign trade and more employments and More means Strong Economy !!
instead of this what govt did is on 1st leg of crude price down, Govt did is reduced the price of fuel but increased the sie duty so that they can easily collect the money from the kitty instead of give the benefit of fuel price reduction and then reap the rewards of better economy.

that is called as lazy man just taking out money from piggy box for daily expenses !!

we all have to praise here ex PM Dr. Manmohan Singh eventhough in politics he was weak, but he has managed the Indian Economy at the difficult period of global recession and high cost of crude Oil !! here I not endorse the NDA-2 govt, but Dr. Manmohan Singh has done excellent job for our beloved country.

bus fares in karnataka, be it in city limits or long distance have been astronomically
raised almost a year back back and the reason given was diesel price raised once by rs 2/litre
and again by rs 3/litre.point agreed.

now diesel prices have reduced to rs 15/litre totally since august 2014 and there is not even a
single paisa reduction in bus fares.

bcoz of no change in diesel price commodity prices are also considerably high in karnataka compared to
rest of india courtesy high transportation cost.

just to give a small example ,tomato ,onion and potato prices are arround rs 40 in karnataka while in rest of india
    it is arround rs 20.

i think thats the reason ,commentors from karnataka here could not see acche din and asking where is accche din in karnataka.lolz.

Since the last hike of petrol and diesel prices, the decrease in prices of these petroleum products have been at least Rs. 10 per liter, but the auto and bus fares have not been lowered.

Is this a done deal between auto union leaders and politicians not to pass on the benefits to common man?

Crude oil prices are the major input towards final product prices. But there is cost towards salaries, power, dealer commission, profit margin, etc. which is unchanged. Hence, don't expect final product prices like petrol and diesel fall in proportion to crude prices.

The in oil prices by almost half can be described as too much and uncalled for. It is really only a modest supply and demand imbalance, but the did happen and may last for some time. We can hope more reduction in oil price

Nidderamayya, saaku maadu ninna BHAGYA scheme! get the funds from some other ways than these petrol rates... else seculars themselves will put fire on ur a** ...vhe vhe vhe

Latest scam is Petrol/Diesel Scam. Everyone looting oil from IOC, BPCL, HPCL Depots. Even CBI or any investigating agencies can’t enter these depots as MPs are involved. If you need more clarification on this please talk to any staff working at these depots. Today oil price is less than 60$. Government throwing peanut reduction to appease public.

Shame on Modi Govt ...What is the crude oil rate /Barrel?It is below $63 from $ 115!!!What is the % in pump selling fuel and what is the % of international crude price!!The moping of excise duty which is levied against fuel was unprecedented and rare in recent fuel management history! Why Modi stolen money in the name of fossil fuel by levying excise duty? That amount should go to customer instead budgetary reconciliations!!Due to unprecedented Oil price slump in the international price India got windfall and Modi also stolen portion of SLUMP in oil price.Negative side is GULF NRI has bad days ahead as Govt projects tend to put for moratorium for some time which indirectly makes jobless for millions of NRIs in the gulf...Ultimately down trend in economic activities of the region.

Robert Fulton, who has been credited with the invention of steam boat is said to have demonstrated the first boat in a river, all the bystanders I believe said: "This won't start". It nevertheless started. Then they said " This won't run". It did. Finally, they said "This won't stop". This is for the super intellects with limited vocabulary who spew their unfounded bias towards Modi and in general whatever good happens in India.

This post needs a certain level of perception. Don't bother reading it if you don't have it!

increase price of alcohol and cigarette to 500%, but people still buy in large numbers.
