India well prepared to tackle Sydney like crisis, says Parrikar

New Delhi, Dec 16 (IANS) : Defence Minister Manohar Parrikar today said India was quite "well-prepared" to handle a Sydney hostage crisis like situation.

"I think we are improving and definitely much better than probably what we were prepared in the earlier years," Mr Parrikar told the media on being asked about India's preparedness and capability to tackle such a situation.

"Ultimately that comes with situation... and each situation differs and I think we are quite well-prepared," he added.

Several people, including two Indians, were taken hostage at a popular cafe in Sydney in Australia by a gunman on Monday. The crisis ended with the police storming the cafe and killing the gunman.

    Better train security forces and intelligence agencies to prevent such situations instead of inviting them. I hope the DM knows what goes on beyond the borders. While Israel is ready to offer assistance in conducting cross border raids on terrorist camps, why do you refuse it?

    Well prepared ? Giving a false assurance is biggest mistake. You need years of expert training to prepare such a team. They need to be trained by a team of US Marine or similar. It is time to wake up now.

    How our politicians are commented during Bombay attack, like home minster R.R.patil chota mota case hote raheta hai.
    Even Rajiv ghandi murder case, Indian intelligence is totally Blind till he was killed.
    So many jihadist groups working in India but Indian intelligence close their eyes.

    We need more police force, more police chowkies, more CC tv cameras, more modern equipment and other logistics support to our police force. Also the salaries and perks given to police, the quality, standard and facilities at their quarters etc need to be enhanced drastically to make them more efficient and less greedy. I am sure with these improvements they will definitely dedicate themselves in protecting the society from all anti national and anti social elements.
