Government preparing database for disabled

New Delhi, Dec 16 (IANS): The government Tuesday said it is planning to create a database for people with disabilities.

"The Department of Disability Affairs has prepared a detailed project for issuance of universal identity card to persons with disabilities through a centrally web-based programme, in consultation with state governments," Minister of State for Social Justice and Empowerment Krishanpal Gurjar informed the Lok Sabha.

The government also proposed to introduce a universally valid certificate for them, so that a certificate issued by one state is valid throughout the country.

The minister, however, did not mention the time frame within which the database would become operational.
