UP, Delhi to work on development of border areas


Lucknow, Dec 17 (IANS): Uttar Pradesh and Delhi have agreed to work on a plan to develop areas on the border of the two states, an official said Wednesday.

This was decided after a meeting between Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav and the Delhi Lt Governor Najeeb Jung in the union capital Tuesday.

An official told IANS that it was decided to have encroachment free and planned development in the Yamuna region. The official also said that land allotment for extension of educational institution campuses was also discussed by the Delhi government.

A consensus was arrived at the meeting that chief secretaries of both the governments would survey land records and take a decision on land utilization.

The Delhi Lt. Governor and the Uttar Pradesh chief minister directed officials of their respective states to schedule the next meeting so that satisfactory results are yielded within two months.

Yadav expressed hope that positive results would come out of the meeting. The meeting was also attended by chief secretaries of both Delhi and Uttar Pradesh.
