Mangalore, Dec 1: Mulki-Moodbidri constituency BJP general secretary Sukhanand Shetty was hacked to death by unidentified men at his office at Kulai near here on Friday December 1 morning.

Sukhanand Shetty (32) was also the Mulki panchayat member.  He was active member of local Hindu organization such as Bajrang Dal, Hindu Sene etc.

On Friday morning he was on his way to his office around 10.15 am at Kulai when about 5-6 unidentified men who came on a Tamil Nadu registered car attacked him with sabres and sickles.  As a result, Sukhanand Shetty sustained serious injuries and was rushed to A J Hospital.

However, he succumbed to the injuries and was declared brought dead.  The doctors said that he died owing to excessive bleeding.

It was in the first week of October that a group had tried to murder him at a lonely place near Mulki.  But he had managed to escape then.  Several protests were held demanding the arrest of accused.  But the case had taken the backseat after communal clashes broke in the city on October 5.

Panambur DySP Pitambar Heraje and SP B Dayanand have already arrived on the spot and have arranged security measures.  Situation remains tensed in Mulki-Suratkal area.  But the police have taken adequate steps to meet any situation.
