ASI spends Rs.16,964 lakh for monument conservation


New Delhi, Dec 17 (IANS): The Archaeological Survey of India (ASI) spent Rs.16,964 lakh during 2013-14 for conservation of monuments, parliament was informed Wednesday.

"Adequate funds have been provided by the government for conservation, preservation and environmental development of protected monuments," Culture and Tourism Minister Mahesh Sharma said in a written reply to the Rajya Sabha.

The ASI spent Rs.14,867 lakh and Rs.13,433 lakh in 2012-13 and 2011-12, respectively.

The minister also said the National Culture Fund (NCF) has received funds from public and private sector companies for conservation of protected monuments by the ASI.

"An amount of Rs.50 lakh was received in 2013-14 and Rs.22 lakh in 2012-13," he said.
