Society's weaker sections to benefit from technology


New Delhi, Dec 17 (IANS): Science and Technology Minister Harsh Vardhan Wednesday said his department's socio-economic development programmes seek to provide technology to the needy.

In a written response to a question in the Lok Sabha, the minister informed the House that a number of projects have been launched for generating sustainable livelihoods and creating inclusive growth in farm and non-farm sectors.

Programmes like Technological Advancement for Rural Areas, Science & Technology Application for Weaker Sections (STAWS), Women Technology Parks, Technology Application for Livelihood Improvement of Scheduled Caste Population are examples of such initiatives to serve the purpose.
