Sensex rallies over 300 points; consumer durables stocks gain


Mumbai, Dec 18 (IANS): A benchmark index of Indian equities markets Thursday surged 308.56 points or 1.16 percent as consumer durables stocks gained.

All the sectors were trading in green and the rally was led by consumer durables, banking, capital goods, auto, metal, healthcare and oil and gas sectors.

The 30-scrip Sensitive Index (Sensex) of the S&P Bombay Stock Exchange (BSE), which opened at 27,053.86 points, was trading at 27,018.69 points (at 01.06 p.m.) in the afternoon session, up 308.56 points or 1.16 percent from the previous day's close at 26,710.13 points.

The Sensex has touched a high of 27,105.80 points and a low of 26,900.57 points in the trade so far.

The S&P consumer durables index surged by 417.78 points, bankex gained by 390.59 points, capital goods index moved up by 322.12 points, auto index inched up by 230.94 points, metal index increased by 208.83 points, healthcare index got augmented by 126 points and oil and gas index went up by 127.90 points.

The wider 50-scrip Nifty of the National Stock Exchange (NSE) was also trading at 89.15 points or 1.11 percent up at 8,118.95 points.
