Udupi, Dec 3: The fourth Udupi Kannada Sahithya Sammelan was inaugurated in Muddanu Sri Mahalingeshwara Temple, Inna, Karkala.
Speaking on the occasion, Vyasaraya Ninjoor opposed the setting up of mega projects in the coastal districts. He expressed his doubts about the proposed coal based power project near Padubidri owing to the various problems it poses, the greatest being the rehabilitation of displaced families.
Though he supported the project initially, considering all the disadvantages he chose to change his stand.
Ninjoor also showed his displeasure over the introduction of English in schools from STD I.
He said that children must first learn to read and write Kannada before they learn English. Adamaru Mutt Swamiji Sri Vishwapriya Theertha inaugurated the sammelan.
Former President of the Karnataka Sahitya Parishat Harikrishna Punaroor, Prof Udyavara Madhava Acharya, Kaup MLA Lalaji R Mendon, former MP Vinay Kumar Sorake and Managing Trustee of Muddanu Sri Mahalingeshwara Temple, Inna Vishwanath Bhat were present on the occasion.
