New Delhi, Dec 18 (IANS): Nearly 700 students from different government schools here Thursday paid tribute to the Pakistan terror attack victims by lighting candles.

The students, who gathered at the base of the largest Indian tricolour in Connaught Place, lit candles and observed a two-minute silence.

The Pakistani Taliban Tuesday slaughtered 148 people, mostly children, in a brazen terror attack on an army-run school in Peshawar city.

Terming the attacks as a "heinous crime", Deepanshu Aggarwal, a class 9 student, said: "What was the fault of those children who got killed. These terrorists do not believe in any religion. They only create fear amongst people."

Another student, Akash Sinha from Kendriya Vidyalaya, said: "With this candle light meet, we want to show the world that we believe in peace and it can only prevail through love."

The students from Delhi government and central government schools as well as New Delhi Municipal Corporation schools were accompanied by their teachers at the gathering.

Schools across India Wednesday observed a two-minute silence and held special prayers for the departed souls.
