Scientist Jayant Narlikar gets Sahitya Akademi Award


Mumbai/Pune, Dec 19 (IANS): Astrophysicist Jayant V. Narlikar was Friday conferred the prestigious Sahitya Akademi Award for his autobiography.

The Pune-based 76-year-old scientist's autobiography "Chaar Nagrantale Majhe Vishwa" was unanimously selected for the award in Marathi literature category, it was announced.

The award, in the form of a casket containing an engraved copper plaque, a shawl and a cheque of Rs.100,000, will be presented to Narlikar and other winners at a special function in New Delhi March 9.

Narlikar has written scientific papers, science fiction, novels, short stories and popular science literature in English, Hindi and Marathi.

A globally renowned scientific personality, Narlikar once appeared in Carl Sagan's television series 'Cosmos: A Personal Voyage' in the 1980s.
