Kolkata, Dec 19 (IANS): A roadmap for developing tourism in the Sunderbans mangrove region, incorporating a collaborative community model, will be delivered to the West Bengal government soon, it was announced here Friday.

Sunderbans delta is the world's largest mangrove reserve and one of the planet's most fragile eco-systems. The Bengal government has recently intensified efforts to promote the area as a top eco-tourism destination.

"It is an integrated tourism plan for Sunderbans. Work is almost complete. It will be delivered to the state government hopefully in the early part of 2015," Tushar Pandey, senior vice-president of Yes Bank, told IANS here on the sidelines of an event.

Pandey was attending the 'Travel India 2014' conference organised by the Indian Chamber of Commerce.

He said emphasis on involvement of community is a component of the roadmap which basically gives a background on how to go about boosting tourism in the region.

"One part of it will include of co-operative destination management organisation (CDMO). How to develop collaborative community model, this will be in the roadmap," he said.

Pandey also stressed on promotion of destinations through indigenous arts and crafts.

"Geographic appellation and promotion through indigenous arts and crafts ... this aspect is kind of understood but still requires a lot of glorified branding.

"You should bring out these aspects and brand it in a geographic appellation sense where it will give enhanced linkages to these areas," he said.
