New Delhi, Dec 20 (Agencies): The Ministry of External Affairs has stripped diplomat Devyani Khobragade of her duties as director in the partnership development division, in view of the unauthorized statements made by her in the media.
The MEA has placed her on "compulsory watch" which means although she retains her post she is without a job for now and may face further action according to sources.
The ministry is also said to be "miffed" with Khobragade for not disclosing that her children have US passports. A vigilance investigation is said to be under way against her, with her reinstatement unlikely until a verdict is reached.
Khobragade, a 1999 Indian Foreign Service officer was at the centre of a diplomatic storm between Delhi and Washington last year. She was arrested and strip-searched on charges of ill-treating her domestic help. The charges were denied by both the Indian government and Khobragade.
