Wagah border suicide bomber identified

Islamabad, Dec 20 (IANS): Pakistani security forces claimed to have identified the man who had carried out last month's suicide bombing at the Wagah border crossing with India and have taken his family into custody, a media report said Saturday.

The suicide attack Nov 2 killed 61 people, including security personnel, and left scores injured, Dawn online reported.

According to a police officer, the suicide bomber was identified as 23-year-old Hanif Ullah, a resident of Bajaur agency in the Federally Administered Tribal Areas (FATA).

Security agencies have taken his family into custody and initiated interrogation.

Hanif had reportedly received training in Afghanistan from Hizb-ul-Ahraar, a TTP offshoot terror group, the officer said.

The Tehreek-i-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) and the Jundullah militant group had claimed responsibility for the Wagah border attack.
