Mangalore, Dec 5: Mangalore Yanthrika Meenugarara Prathamika Sahakari Sangha has earned a net profit of Rs 1.08 crore for the year 2005-06, said Sangh president Kashinath Karkera while addressing a press conference at Matsyagandhi complex at the fishing port here on Monday December 4.
He further said that at present the Sangha has 525 members and enjoys a share capital of Rs 12,48,500 and a working capital of Rs 6.9 crore.
The Sangha marketed fish worth Rs 23.44 crore during the last year and plans to increase the amount to Rs 30 crore in the next year.
The association has also come forward to offer scholarships worth Rs 2.70 lac to deserving students belonging to families of the fishermen community, said Karkera while elaborating the schemes offered by the Sangha to fishermen.
The government has given a piece of land measuring more than 625 square metres for the construction of 100-tonne capacity ice plant at the fishing port at the cost of Rs 1.67 crore.
Sangha director Lokanath Bolar was present.
