Doctors seek arrest of suspended BJP MLA, boycott work

Jaipur, Dec 20 (IANS): Doctors across Rajasthan boycotted work Saturday for one hour demanding arrest of Prahalad Gunjal, suspended BJP MLA from Kota North constituency .

"We boycotted work for one hour today (Saturday) and from tomorrow (Sunday) we have decided not to boycott work but to protest in a way that patients do not suffer," Ajay Chaudhary, organising secretary of the All Rajasthan In Service Doctors Association told IANS.

On Friday, doctors in government hospitals across the state had boycotted work for two hours.

"We want arrest of Gunjal and two of his friends who had threatened the CMHO a few days ago," Chaudhary said.

Earlier Friday, the BJP had suspended Gunjal for allegedly threatening a chief medical and health officer (CMHO) to force him to transfer a male nurse.

"Taking cognizance of the matter, the central leadership has suspended him from the primary membership of the party and also informed the state unit about it. These kind of matters are decided by our parliamentary board. They have taken this decision," state Bharatiya Janata Party spokesman Kailash Nath Bhatt told IANS.

Gunjal had threatened Kota district CMHO R.N. Yadav and used abusive language while asking him to transfer a male nurse to a place of his choice.

The BJP's state unit had Thursday issued notice to the legislator and asked him to respond to the allegations in five days.
