Udupi, Dec 5: The Ayurveda Department of Kasturba Hospital will offer treatment to reduce extra weight under its “excess weight reduction programme,” stated a press release from the hospital.
Dr K J Malagi of the department of Ayurveda has developed an innovative method of weight reduction. He stated that the patients will get a good treatment under this programme - Virechana therapy (purgation therapy).
According to him after the primary check up of obese patients with necessary lab tests and other clinical evaluation, the patient is advised to take Amapachaka Oushadhi (medicines for digestion of toxins) for a period of one to two weeks. Nirama Lakshana (proper digested toxic systems) will be evaluated and finally the patient will be subjected to Snehapana (Internal oelation therapy).
This procedure is continued for 3, 5, or 7 days till proper symptoms are seen. Then 3 days Taila Abhyanga (oil massage) and Swedhana (fomentation) will be administered. On the fourth day after the oil massage and fomentation therapy, Virechana drug will be administered as per the patient’s tolerance and digestive capacity. By this patient will have 15-20 purges. Then the patient will be advised to take light diet for one week in a stepping type of way. The total span required in this purification procedure is around 3 weeks.
Obese patients can expect minimum of 5 kg body weight reduction. Some of the patients have reduced more body weight also. The bonus points what the patient can expect after this procedure is control over the tongue, relaxation, lightness, proper digestion and energized body, he states.
