Venice curator praises Kochi Muziris Biennale

Kochi, Dec 22 (IANS): The Kochi Muziris Biennale (KMB) has made India an important centre for contemporary art with its assembly of beautifully installed exhibits that are well-chosen in their narration and materiality, said curator critic Okwui Enwezor.

The KMB 2014 "feels incredibly familiar in a powerful way", the 51-year-old Nigerian said Monday, adding that the 108-day festival took him back to the days of the Johannesburg Biennale, which he curated in 1996, two years after the end of the apartheid regime in South Africa.

"It (KMB) is as significant as the Johannesburg Biennale was to me, because of the incredible freedom," Enwezor said at a 'Let's talk programme' organised as part of the KMB.

The KMB continues to draw celebrities and key figures of the international art world even after ten days of it inauguration.
