Mangalore, Dec 6: The death anniversary of Dr B R Ambedkar was observed by the local unit of Karnataka Dalit Sangharsha Samiti on Wednesday December 6 here.
The Samiti demanded the installation of Dr Ambedkar’s statue in front of the Town Hall. Speaking on the occasion, district convener S P Anand, who led the proceedings, said that all districts except Dakshina Kannada have honoured the man who worked for the dalits and the down trodden.
When the Samiti urged the district administration to name Jyothi circle after Dr Ambedkar, a small signboard was put up, and when they placed their demands again, the size of the board was increased, he said.
Now the Samiti has asked for the installation of an 8-feet statue of Dr Ambedkar in front of the Town Hall.
Corporators Appi and Nagaveni were present on the occasion.
