Iran choose Sydney as training base for 2015 Asian Cup

Canberra, Dec 23 (IANS): Three-time AFC Asian Cup champions Iran have chosen Sydney's northern beaches as their training base to prepare for the 2015 edition of the football tournament to be held in Australia in January.

Iran will arrive in Sydney Dec 30 and train at Cromer Park on the northern beaches until Jan 7, reports Xinhua.

Their opening match is Jan 11 against Bahrain in Melbourne.

Iran enter the 2015 Asian Cup as Asia's highest ranked team.

If they want to fulfil their dream of equalling Japan's record of four Asian titles, they must finish first or second in a group that also includes the United Arab Emirates and Qatar.
