Cold wave continues to hit life in Rajasthan

Jaipur, Dec 23 (IANS): Cold wave conditions continued to affect normal life in the desert state of Rajasthan Tuesday.

Fog affected train and air services. Over 25 trains were running late while operations on Jaipur airport for the second day Tuesday started only after 10.30 p.m.

Churu was the coldest town in the state, recording a minimum temperature of 3.2 degree celsius, one degree below normal. Bikaner, the city famous for its namkeens and bhujiya, was shivering at 3.6 degree celsius, 2 degree below normal.

Mount Abu, the only hill station in the state, was cold at 4.4 degree celsius, while Pilani was chilly at 4.8 degree celsius.

State capital Jaipur was also cold at 6.3 degree celsius, 2 degree below normal.

The day's temperatures in majority of cities across the state also fell in the last couple of days.

The maximum temperatures are down by almost 3-9 degree celsius.

"Almost 27-30 trains were running behind schedule by over 20 minutes to over 14 hours," a North Western Railways press release said.

Similarly, the Jaipur airport became operational only after 10.30 a.m. Tuesday due to fog, airport officials said.

Visibility reduced to 25 metres or less at Ganganagar and Churu.

"Not much of change in minimum temperatures was expected in next 24 hours. Dense-to-very-dense fog could occur at some of the places over north Rajasthan," said a weather department official.
