Kashmir likely to miss snow on Christmas


Srinagar, Dec 24 (IANS): Christmas celebrations in Jammu and Kashmir might miss snowfall this season as the Met Office Wednesday forecast dry weather during the next 24 hours.

The weatherman added that 0.4 millimetres of snowfall was recorded in Leh town of the Ladakh region during the night.

The minimum temperature was minus 3.8 degrees Celsius in Srinagar Wednesday, while it was minus 6.4 degrees in Pahalgam and minus 5.8 in Gulmarg during the night.

The minimum temperature plummeted to minus 10.2 degrees Celsius in Leh and minus 10 degrees in Kargil town of the Ladakh region.

The minimum was 5.8 degrees Celsius in Jammu city Wednesday.

The Kashmir Valley is passing through the 40-day harsh winter period of 'Chilla Kalan' that started Dec 21 and will end Jan 31 next year.
