DD National to showcase documentaries on Malaviya, Vajpayee


New Delhi, Dec 24 (IANS): Special documentaries on former prime minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee and the late freedom fighter-educationist Pandit Madan Mohan Malaviya, who have been named for the Bharat Ratna on eve of birthdays, will be screened by Doordarshan National Thursday.

Following Prime Minister Narendra Modi's declaration of observing Dec 25 as Good Governance Day, the public broadcaster has lined up the special documentaries for telecast, said a statement.

"Geet Naya Gata Hoon", a documentary on Vajpayee, will have a backdrop of his poetry and songs. It will be aired 11 a.m. Thursday, and repeated at 10.30 p.m.

Another documentary dedicated to Vajpayee, titled "Rashtriyaneta Rajneta", will be aired at 9.30 a.m. Thursday.

As a mark of respect to the late Malaviya, DD National will air "Swapna Sakaar: documentary on Mahamana Pt. Madan Mohan Malviya" at 9 a.m. Thursday. It will highlight the political, social and educational career of the educationist and politician, notable for his role in the Indian independence movement.

The film, to be telecast 6 p.m. Thursday, would be an account of his journey and achievements.
