Rajnath appeals for peace in Assam

New Delhi, Dec 24 (IANS): Home Minister Rajnath Singh Wednesday appealed to all sections of society to maintain peace in Assam's Kokrajhar and Sonitpur districts, where Bodo militants massacred at least 65 unarmed tribals.

The villagers were killed by the National Democratic Front of Bodoland (NDFB) faction opposed to peace talks.

"The situation was reviewed at a high-level meeting, that included senior officers of the ministry of home affairs and ministry of defence," Rajnath Singh said in a statement here.

He said additional 50 companies of the Central Armed Police Forces have been provided to Assam for maintaining peace.
