President, prime minister greet people on Christmas


New Delhi, Dec 25 (IANS): President Pranab Mukherjee and Prime Minister Narendra Modi greeted people a merry Christmas Thursday.

"Merry Christmas, greetings to all on this joyous occasion," the president tweeted.

He appealed to the people "to apply the divine teachings of Lord Jesus in our daily lives and strive ceaselessly for peace".

Another tweet from the president's Twitter account said: "Let us rekindle in our minds and hearts the teachings of love and compassion of Lord Jesus Christ."

Modi also took to Twitter to wish citizens a merry Christmas.

"Merry Christmas to everyone around the world. May this day enhance the spirit of harmony, peace and brotherhood in society," said a tweet.
