Death warrants for two Pakistani terrorists

Islamabad, Dec 25 (IANS): An anti-terrorism court in Pakistan has issued death warrants to two prisoners convicted on terrorism charges, a media report said Thursday.

Judge Muhammad Qasim issued the warrants Wednesday on an application by the superintendent of Faisalabad jail, Dawn online reported.

The superintendent said that prisoner Faiz Ahmad was awarded the death penalty in 2006 for killing Lance Naik Tariq Mahmood. He said an appeal against the sentence was dismissed by superior courts.

He said the second prisoner on death row, Muhammad Sharif, was convicted in 2000 for his involvement in various terrorism activities.

The official said the convicts' mercy petitions had been rejected by the president.
